Alethea Altenbern |
Moving from the Chicago area in 1984 brought Hal & Alethea together with their family … we started as six and are now nineteen. We choose RB as ‘our new Hometown’. Our oldest daughter Dawn Walter owns a private law firm in downtown San Diego …Gayle Grider is Counselor at Vista High School … Diane Jones is Head Nurse of Recovery Room at Alvarado Hospital … John Altenbern owns his Farmer’s Insurance Agency in Carlsbad. Their twenty-three years of college education has paid dividends. My Chicago career involved part-time office work at insurance and real estate offices. Upon arrival to RB, I enrolled in ROP computer courses. This skill lead me to part-time office administration work at two insurance agencies and six years at a Vista manufacturing firm. I then was employed as Office Manager for the RB Continuing Education Center for eleven years under the direction of seven different presidents. Now CEC-RB is an all volunteer program; I am the Volunteer Coordinator and a Member-at-large on their Board and have been the ’RB Alive’ Coordinator for CEC-RB for many years. I am currently in my fifth year on the RB Community Council… Corresponding Secretary for two years and Maintenance Assessment District Chairman for one year (which strives to keep RB beautiful) and continue to be a member of MAD and also the Traffic/Transportation Committee. I also became a volunteer for SHOK (Seniors Helping our Kids) four years ago. Additional activities are proofreading for two RB organizations - Co-chair five Fourth of July parade floats – Member of the Freedom Club – Neighborhood Watch - Senior Services volunteer – Pathway of Pride – Historical Society Board – my husband and I were ticket chairman for ‘Twilight Concert on the Green’. RB has certainly given us a happy ‘American Home’. It has been an honor to give my time and abilities to the Community. It is my intent to continue to do so.
