Caltrans Update as of 09/02/2010

The New I-15 Express Lanes ~
A revolution is coming to the I-15 Express Lanes, in addition to the existing 8-mile stretch, 4.5 brand new miles of the smartest, most innovated highway in the U.S. are opening in September. It will be an expressway within a freeway.

Revolutionize your commute with more choices to get around San Diego County. There will be new direct access points for entering and exiting; you can park the car and enjoy priority access by carpool, vanpool or Express Bus; if you are driving solo, use FasTrack at a special introductory toll of just 50 cents for the new 4.5 mile segment. An Anatomy of Bridge Demolition and Reconstruction

The following photos show the demolition, construction, and reopening of the I-15 Southbound overpass at Bernardo Center Dr.

--The first photo is June 30, 2007 at 9:45 am, just 12 hours after demolition began.
--The second photo shows the progress on January 14, 2008 at 10:45 am.
--The third photo shows traffic on the new bridge on March 26, 2008 at 4:30 pm.

Caltrans kept the traffic flowing on I-15 by diverting the southbound lanes onto the new center lanes during construction.

This overpass was completely demolished and reopened by Caltrans in less than 9 months.
